When it comes to anti-racism activism a lot of people talk about how the goal is a post-race world.
Admittedly I’m new to trans-rights activism having only become truly cognizant of it after my state passed HB2. Since then I’ve been attempting to catch up by learning about the issues and the academics. What I’m not sure of, particularly after reading this post, is if trans-rights activists are working towards a post-gender world.
Aren’t the rights, privileges, norms, and differences between genders a social construct? And if so, shouldn’t we be seeking to blur the lines between the social constructions of gender rather than reaffirming those distinctions and blurring the lines between social and biological? Is there anything socially productive by maintaining the social gender line?
