I consider myself to be a “Mobile Artist,” meaning I do all of my artwork on my iPhone. I always start with an image I have taken (using my iPhone). I then edit, transform, and add to the image until it reaches completion. The entire process is incredibly inspiring; what many people think is only possible on a computer, I can do with a device that fits in my pocket. I love the mobility because my art never has to stop. I don’t have to wait to add this or that until I get home, I can work while I am waiting in line, or I’m on the bus: my art is always right on the edge of my fingertips. The process is so fluid aswell. I don’t have to take a photo, upload it to my computer, and then finally start to edit it. I take the photo and with the exact same device I can begin manipulating it, and then I can share it instantly with thousands of people.
I’m but one of many talented artists working this way. Some of the artists I know are also becoming very successful with art in galleries all over the United States and over seas. “Iphone Art” is now really starting to get some recognition. The stigmas involved in creating art on phones is evaporating and the art community is really just starting to appreciate the art without really caring about how or where it came from. Good art is good art regardless of if you painted it, sculpted it, or made it on your phone.
The thing I find most exciting is how low the level of entry is to this art form. Almost everyone has access to this. I make all my art on my iPhone 5. That’s it. I didn’t spend hundreds of dollars on expensive software — just a few bucks in the app store is all you need. So, go try it out!
