always strive.

When we choose to be good at something, it requires regular attention and practice. I studied piano for 20 years as a young person, but haven’t touched it for 30 years now. My finger muscles and coordination have been greatly reduced. Should I choose to take up piano again, it will take some daily practice and focus to get back to my previous skill level.
It’s no different for our inner life. When I avoid practicing, my old habits are rather quick to kick in again, much to my dismay. I forget to meditate, and before you know it, I’m rushing around, full of anxiety, and not being very effective at anything. I love the image of the helium balloons holding me up as I strive to practice improving my inner life. I also recall the ease life takes on when I strive, much like it must feel being held up by these balloons.
