Don’t Have Any Goals? I Have A Goal Everyone Should Pursue
We are taught we should all have goals. Whether it is making more money, climbing to the top of the corporate ladder, or getting in shape, we are supposed to strive for something.
But not everyone has goals. There is nothing wrong with not having goals. Each person has to live their own life and I’m not the decider of what having no goals means.
I have goals. I’d like to make a living from writing and publish a book. I’d like to become a faster runner. I have a goal of not ruining my kids with my parenting style. The last one will be the toughest to achieve.
There are several other goals I would like to accomplish before I die. But all of those are long-term goals.
However, I have one goal I work on daily. And if you have no goals, you should be working on this one thing too. Hell, even if you have goals you should do this.
There’s a saying I heard not long ago. It goes something like this:
“If you meet an asshole in the morning, then you’ve met an asshole. But if you meet assholes all day, then maybe you are the asshole.”
The one goal you should work on daily?
Don’t be an asshole.
It is one of the easiest goals you can have and achieve. It’s easy to not be an asshole. It’s easy to treat people with respect, even if they sometimes don’t deserve it.
What are characteristics of assholes? Along with the racist, sexist, narcissist, abusive asshole, here are other attributes an asshole may display:
- They tailgate cars who won’t get out of their way.
- They won’t get out of the way for cars behind them.
- They talk down to people.
- They treat retail staff and other workers like shit.
- They talk over people to get their point across instead of listening.
- They lie, cheat, and steal to get ahead.
- They have no awareness or care about feelings of others.
- They believe they are always right even when presented with facts which say otherwise.
A book could be written about the characteristics of an asshole, but these are more common traits. We’ve all met assholes and we’ve all been assholes. Life is that way sometimes.
Even though life sucks sometimes doesn’t mean you have to take it out on everyone else. You don’t have to allow life to turn you into an angry jackass. Your mood shouldn’t dictate your manners.
Being an asshole is not contagious. You can’t catch it from someone else. So it is up to you to not allow others’ assholeness to rub off on you.
Let’s be honest, everyone hates assholes. So don’t be that person who meets assholes all day long. Because if you do, you are the asshole and you know it.
If you have no goals right now that’s fine. But I hope you adopt this one goal of not being an asshole. Life is better when you aren’t mean to others. Life is better when you aren’t an asshole.
So be nice to everyone. That’s a goal we all should strive for. And don’t be an asshole!
