We think about ourselves when we hear about someone else’s life because we are trying to imagine the situation as if it were our own.

I agree with you on this and there is nothing wrong with it since I see it as trying to relate to the other person and situation. As long as someone isn’t trying to “one-up” the other person and make the other person’s situation about them, it’s normal. I think we all do it but not everyone recognizes it.

I’ve recently come across the thought that I may potentially be a sociopath.

I lol’d at this. Best start to an article I’ve seen in a long time.
