In the United States, most states require that you register to vote as a separate step from the actual act of voting. To make matters worse, 1) there’s not always a super easy way to know whether you are registered properly, and 2) the voter registration deadline is different by state, with many of them being ~1 month ahead of election day.

As a result, 30–40% of eligible voters fail to even *register to vote* each election season!

2014 Midterms — Voter Funnel

Twenty-five states have Oct 9th (or within a few days of that) deadlines. I’ve provided each of those states’ registration websites below (or vote.org for states without online registration).

Please, please, please use these links to check if you’re registered, and share them widely with friends & family. It takes < 5(!!!) minutes and ensures you’re able to vote in what is shaping up to be one of the most important midterm elections of our time:

Note — most of these states have 1 deadline, and it’s soon, but a small number of them have multiple deadlines by voting method (online/mail/in-person). I left that out for simplicity sake when sharing. That said, please send me a message (https://twitter.com/jeffthink) if you notice egregious mistakes with the above list.

I’ll create another version of this post for each week leading up to election day (November 6th).

Please share widely — ensuring that the people around you are registered to vote is a small way in which you can feel empowered and helpful in affecting the outcome of this election!

And if you’re looking for additional ways to get involved, check out Crush the Midterms (https://www.crushthemidterms.org/) — it’s an easy/fun/free website that helps you figure out the best way for you personally to make an impact this election season!
