“…run npm start and direct your browser to http://localhost:3001/api, we can see our message!” — not the case for me. It always listens on 3000 no matter what, never 3001, and never responds to /api. In fact it behaves like server.js isn’t even part of the software — I can put syntax errors in it and they don’t get mentioned.
