Time for a new, New Year’s Resolution

New Year’s Resolutions. Yuck! I really don’t like New Year’s Resolutions…AT ALL.

When we say we are going to do a New Year’s Resolutions, it is a huge commitment. These resolutions are usually things about ourselves that we would like to change. Things that have become part of who we are: eating poorly, not exercising, biting our nails, smoking, swearing, etc. The list can go on.

When it comes time to make a New Year’s resolution, we’re saying that we are going to not do an activity or do a certain activity…FOR A YEAR! That is a lot! We might not say it is a year long commitment, but in our heads, it is.

In my opinion, that is why many New Year’s Resolutions don’t last. If we fall on January 28, we look at the next 337 days and get overwhelmed. If we want to make a change for a month and fall on January 28, we only have 3 more days to make it. Much more doable!

So, if you made a New Year’s Resolution, my suggestion is to make it a New January resolution. If you make it, you can decide if you want to try for another month. OR, you could make a New February resolution ☺
