Sayulita Haikus

REUNION

(for Juhu)

So long, the day’s wait
racing thoughts fragment and swirl
to visions of you

LUMINOSITY

Full moon lights the night
the glow of deep, dark secrets
never to be told

THEORY

Butterfly wave dance
heads out to sea, disappears
blue sky gets bluer

NOISE

Alone on the beach
bird calls, ocean roar, sunlight
so loud, so quiet

SECRET

At tree trunks, turn left
walk about 100 yards
you can’t miss the beach

SONG

Big bird on small branch
calling out on the morning
fragile clockworks churn

FLOAT

Dodging butterflies
running down an old dirt road
breathing deep and free

RUSH

Imminent sunset
we scramble down the long road
always chase last light

EMBERS

Things that burn, hard, deep
ablaze where it matters most
what’s left, there you stand

Inspired by this, by Carpentrix.

SOAR

Absolute stillness
amidst the harsh crash of waves
lone bird on the rock

MORNING

View of the ocean
hot coffee and a cool breeze
stay very still, breathe

ANNIVERSARY

(for Juhu)

It’s been 20 years
cascade of lifetimes, swirling
the constant is you

RISE

Early morning walk
down the hill on quiet road
journey through time, space

SCHEDULE

Empty beach, hot sun
strip off clothes, run to water
lie down, fall asleep

DREAMS

Back from the beach, late
watched the sunset, and lingered
a good sleep awaits

ENDS

How can this be true?
it feels like we just got here
last night blues smack hard

DESOLATE

You, in sunset light
a long, hot day’s heat exhales
and this beach is ours

MAGIC

Well after sunset
we linger — wordless — and watch
the night sky unfold
