What I want to build at MLH Prime: Spring Finale 2016

What do I want to build at MLH Prime? That’s the golden question. For me, I’m always on the hunt for new ideas, ideas that provide the foundation for an excellent scaling application in the future. I want to create a web and mobile application that is awesome, saves time, and most importantly, useful. What I want to build at MLH Prime is simple. A mobile application for public transit services, specifically for trains. The main application that people tend to use to look up train times is Google Maps, that’s a no-brainer. But as a daily train rider (the GO Transit system in the Toronto area), I have to take an hour commute to get to work (Telus Digital), and back. The worst part of the commute is going back home. At Toronto, the station can be hectic at times. Riders won’t know what platform their train arrives at until the last few minutes, and sometimes trains can appear on totally different platforms rather than their usual platform, preventing riders to go to platforms earlier. Because of this, I want to create a web and mobile app that will notify users what platform their train is located at. The app will allow users to know what platform they need to go to ahead of time, instead of getting to the train station and then looking at a TV to figure out where they need to go. As the tech world evolves, many people move to highly populated places such as Silicon Valley, where the use of a car is usually unnecessary. An app like this will be used on an everyday basis, saving a rider the time to coordinate where they need to go. The whole goal of the app is to save time. Because of the audience that this app targets, this app can be used universal, wherever there are services that offer train rides as the main means of transportation. But most importantly, this app has the potential to be created on both web and mobile platforms, making this project an awesome one to work on for the weekend because of the potential developers I can meet. I’m personally a web developer, but I’d love to team up with some mobile devs to help make this idea a reality, making it accessible to more users.

In conclusion…

I’m a very passionate developer who just started learning this year, and I would absolutely love the chance to participate and hack something up for this year’s MLH Prime. The main reason why I code is because I love creating, and I think this idea will save many people time. Plus, it’s one of those apps that hackers will still hack on after the hackathon. If you’ve read this far, thanks for your time, and I hope to see you at MLH Prime!
