Thanks to These Mice Traps I Do Not Have To Move From My Apartment

Moving to Baltimore, I never imagined that one of the struggles I’d have to go through was dealing with mice. Just two months after being moved into my new apartment I was greeted by these unwanted guests. I was in the kitchen preparing something to eat when a little ball of fur just passed by my feet. I was so disgusted and terrified that my first action was to call the apartment office and complain. Two days later, management sent an exterminator to get rid of the problem. I noticed an improvement in the next couple of weeks, but then they were back again. (graphic pictures ahead)

I took measures into my own hands. I went to the store and bought a box of glue traps that would last me a whole month. I placed it all over the apartment hoping to catch them. They were so much smarter than I thought, and I only was able to catch 3 of them in the period of two months.

Meanwhile, I had to deep clean and disinfect my kitchen every day to get rid of the droppings I encountered.

The worst thing about glue traps is that if they’re strong enough they will escape. Multiple times I found hair on the traps, but not mice.

Sugar and cement, peppermint oil in cotton balls, and cayenne pepper were some of the homemade solutions that I tried and nothing worked. I also bought bait traps and poisoned blocks and they weren’t even touched. At that point, I thought the only thing that could work was moving into a different apartment.

While I was browsing Amazon, a discounted mice trap appeared on my suggested list. I was skeptical for a minute until I read the reviews. Many people showed proof of how effective those traps were, so I decided to give it a try. These traps were the Guarden Rat Traps. https://amzn.to/3L6LL7Q

The box came with six traps and I decided to place them all in different corners of the apartment. The instructions were pretty simple: just place some bait (peanut butter, chocolate, or bacon) in the bait cup and leave it open.

On the same day, I heard a loud CLAP! coming from the kitchen. I checked and one of the mice was trapped. Finally, something worked! I removed the mice from the trap and left it open again.

The next morning, 4 of the 6 traps caught more mice. One of them had two mice trapped. Since then, these traps have kept my apartment free of rodents. I still leave them out and occasionally I find mice killed by the traps. However, there are no more droppings or sight of balls of fur in my kitchen.

Benefits of these traps

Quick: I have never seen a trap that has been triggered without mice in it.

Humane: The trap is designed to catch them by the neck, so they’re instantly killed. Something I didn’t like about the glue traps was that they were still alive. It was horrible seeing them moving, trying to escape, and screaming at the time of disposal. These traps eliminate that problem.

Clean: It is a clean job. No blood, fur, or any sign that something was killed in my kitchen. Also, you can dispose of the rodents immediately. When they are dead from poison and you must follow the smell to find them is another struggle that no one wants to go through.

Safe: In comparison with poison baits, there is no risk of being exposed to toxic chemicals.

Loud: One of the things I love the most about this trap is that it announces when it catches mice. Unless I’m sound-asleep, I have heard every time it catches one.

Design: I love how the company decided to place a picture of the eyes of a cat on the traps. It makes me feel like I have my own collection of cats guarding my apartment.

Downsides

Mechanics: Many times I found my traps with an empty bait cup. I was confused as to why it wasn’t triggered. My theory is that the mice in my apartment were so light that they didn’t trigger the trap to react. It needs to be taken into account that weight is needed for the technology of this trap to work. However, when the mice gain weight by eating from your baits, eventually they will be caught. It happened every time.

Also, a couple of times I accidentally stepped on one of the traps and it almost hurt me. We need to be careful where to place them.

In conclusion, I’m completely satisfied with the effectiveness of these traps. This is the only method to get rid of mice that have been consistent in efficacy. I recommend it to you if you are also dealing with those terrible rodents.
