Meeting Ivan

Some time last year, I attended the meeting with Ivan. He was friendly and approachable. This meeting was organised by James. The purpose of the meeting was to introduce me and Slevin to Ivan. It took place because James asked Ivan to share feedback with us in achieving our goal.

During the meeting, we talked about what form of mentoring we expected. I suggested for a structured mentoring with Ivan. I added that 3-month is a good duration for a structured mentoring. We also need a set of mentoring objectives in mind.

James preferred unstructured mentoring. He explained that the benefits would be accessible phone calls to getting advice and referral from Ivan. I did not like this idea. I felt that it would be less rewarding without clear objectives and duration.

Slevin suggested the middle ground. He noted that we could keep it unstructured for Ivan yet keeping it structured for me, James and Slevin. We could add structure to our mentoring by creating objectives for ourselves to meet. We could also update him on what we planned to achieve. I liked Slevin’s suggestion.
