It should be emphasized that no matter what the point being made, you should never use the word “sweetheart” when speaking to someone in a professional situation, with the possible exception being that you work for a dating service and you are describing your customers. On the scale of offensively condescending ways to address someone, it’s not far above “boy” (or “girl”).
