9 Ways to Kill Your Content Before You Even Publish (#5 is an easy fix!)
Most people think the best way to write is to put fingers to keyboard. It’s a way. But it’s not always the best way.
The best way to write is to start with thinking.
- Who’s your ideal reader?
- What benefit will they get from reading your piece?
- What action do you want them to take after they read your piece?
You can think through your fingers on the keyboard.
Or, you can take a walk or a shower or wash the dishes.
I admit it’s not always easy. Even for me with a decade + of professional writing experience. That’s why I have approximately 12, 134 unfinished drafts across five different apps.
(Tell me I’m not alone?)
However, over the years, I’ve learned a few writing truisms that elevate your writing every time. Learning these helped me boost my internal hourly rate for client work so I can make more money in less time.
Even if you don’t nail them all right away, they’re worth practicing.
If you don’t, chances are, your words will sink to the bottom of the internet never to be seen again.
