Our New Oakmore Home

An experiment in mini-cohousing

Alissa, Arlo, Dale, Dan, Jenifer and Marco are excited to announce our new home! It’s in the Oakmore area of Oakland — a lovely little neighborhood that feels almost like its own small town. We will be living on Clemens Road, near the historic Leimert Bridge and the Sausal Creek Trail, off of Park Boulevard just below Highway 13.

The home was built in 1938 and is an original duplex with two wonderful units (each with 2+ bedrooms). It also includes a 1-bedroom in-law unit on the basement level that has an existing tenant. It’s a beautiful space that feels a bit like a tree house with lots of neat touches, including an internal staircase that connects the two separate units.

Earlier this year, we decided to join forces to find a new place where our two families could live in community together. We are busy parents, we like a lot of the same things, and we have been good friends who like to hang out a lot for the past couple of years. We knew that by living close to one another we could deepen the bond that our families share, we could back each other up in life with everything from cooking to child care, and it would just make the overall logistics way easier! Plus it’s a whole lot of cute:

Ice cream is yummy!

We expect to all be moved in by Aug. 15, are excited about all the projects we have cooking to make the place our own, and are very much looking forward to our joint housewarming party!
