I Read A Book About Brahms And All I Got Was This Obsession With Clara Schumann
Fran Hoepfner

If you think that is good, if you haven’t yet done so listen to Sechs Lieder (Op 13) with some form of translation if you don’t know German. Robert was more well known as the art song composer, and while I love Frauenliebe (which I think Clara HAD to have some hand in) — she is better. The connection of the poetry to the melody and harmony is deadly — especially Ich Stand in dunklen Traumen and Der Mond kommt still gegagen. Where his is obvious (Gretchen am spinnrade), she is more subtle (Die stille Lotosblume).
