Donald Trump and his “ideal” plan for America
For this blog, I have decided to follow the progression of the presidential campaigning, most especially Donald Trump and all the platform that he will more likely to implement if he gets elected. Any member of our nation should be interested as this will effect the turnout of our society in the future.
As the election slowly approaching, both candidates from both parties have been campaigning nonstop. However, Donald Trump has been undeniably catching people’s attention ever since he announced his candidacy. In addition, the famous republican candidate has been conclusive about his platform that he wants to implement once he’s elected as the president. Furthermore, one of the conspicuous slogan that indicates Trump’s intention is “Make America Great Again.” This may sound very enticing for many

people as Donald Trump tries to persuade our nation as he believes that he has all the potential and power to accomplish making America great again as he tries to establish his credibility by developing his platform by trying to implement border wall, deportation laws, and banning Muslim immigrants. However, does Trump’s slogan align with the policies he has been putting forward? and to what degree do his policies, as they continue to become clear, actually make America great or convince people that is true?
In the NY Times article, “The Duplicity of Donald Trump,” Charles M. Blow, the writer, discusses about how Trump is and how he views immigrant people, especially the Mexican immigrants. According to Blow, “Indeed, one of Trump’s main focuses has been the wall… and a “deportation force” to round up and deport all of the approximately 11 million immigrants who [entered this] country illegally.” He also talked about how Trump thinks that Mexican government is “totally corrupt” and wants nothing to do with them. In addition, this shows and explains why he wants to implement the border wall. According to one of Trump’s speeches, he initially describes them in such way: “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best…They’re sending people that have lots of problems [and bringing it to us, such us drugs, crimes, and rapists.] And some, I assume, are good people.” As a result, though this may cause racial tension and segregation, Trump believes that we have a bad leadership that needs to be run better and he believes that putting up a wall will solve all the crisis we have in America.
In a recent article in the Migration Policy Institute written by by Jie Zong and Jeanne Batalova, study shows that “Since 1970, the number of U.S. immigrants more than quadrupled, rising from 9.6 million in 1970 to 42.4 million in 2014.” In addition, Zong and Batalova also discussed that “more that 11.0 million undocumented immigrants from Mexico resided in the United States in 2014.” Zong and Batalova also shared that even though on November 20, 2014, President Obama announced an expansion of the DACA and DAPA program, only 22 percent, 1.1 million of the total are the only ones that have potential to be eligible. In addition, 42. 4 million were accounted as immigrants in the United States, which includes, Indians, Chinese, Filipinos, Vietnamese, and more. As a result, these countries all together represent 60 percent of the U.S immigrant in 2014.
Now with all that bit of knowledge, what does Donald Trump do really mean by “Make America Great Again” Building a wall to separate America to Mexico can be one thing, how will this affect us and the large population of immigrants, who holds most of the important occupations in our country? Building a wall to separate America to Mexico can be one thing, but what if there’s tendency of provoking violence, racial tension, segregation, or possible major change in our nation in general? Will that still be idealistic?
