Technical Product Manager Performance Task
Hi! I’m Jeni, and here’s how I would approach the prompt from CollegeSpring.
BACKGROUND SUMMARY:
CollegeSpring = 14 years old
Covid Shifts = virtual + digital learning is normalized, target market states (CA and NY) moved away from college entrance exams
Response & Future Goals =
1) choose LMS platform and build out digital curriculum,
2) build new ACT and TSIA2 products,
3) update SAT product to align with digital SAT
INITIAL THOUGHTS:
>>> Schools run on a different calendar than our Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 financial schedule [which means: MVP of new products released by spring purchasing cycle for districts, summer trainings for teachers, product bug-free by August to implement]
>>> Threat looms with California, Colorado, NYC, and Washington state removing or in the process of moving away from standardized college entrance exams [which means: product and sales teams need to identify new markets to meet financial goals]
>>> 9–12 teachers are using a variety of LMS platforms and bound by district purchases; Google Classroom, Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, and Schoology hold biggest marketshare [which means: CollegeSpring needs all products to integrate well with each]
LET’S GET TO WORK:
PRD document
The product requirements document gets the team on the same page, ensuring everyone understands the overview, timeline of release, personas, user stories, KPIs, design requirements, messaging for marketing/sales, non-goals, flowchart, and additional considerations. This document would be referenced often and linked to sprint tracking system (Smartsheet).
1-year Roadmap
I created a roadmap in Smartsheet accessible here. This gives a product launch timeline with dependencies and deadlines. Sprint planning, sprint points, and sprint deadlines would be determined at a later date.
Here’s a snapshot, but please open the document to see all of the individual tasks and a more in-depth view of the work to be done.
Press Release
To allow marketing and sales to develop further partnerships and secure philanthropy partners immediately, the following press release gives stakeholders a preview to the product build and additional offerings from CollegeSpring. This supports this KPI: “New ACT product will propel partnerships to reach $1 million in service fees by Q3 of 2023 (up from $313,000)”
