That Band Of Gold
Feign smile on one’s face and disappointment on the heart,
Ring holds two together, but is love that pushes them apart!
That band of gold, is only that if those promises are up held,
Without lexes of love, deceits from mountain top are yelled!
Almost deafening with but a single missive being spelled out,
These lyrics, now those cold bitter winter winds blow about!
Merely each stanza begins and ends with this question mark,
As reality writes the rules, and defers one posed in the dark!
Afraid of what it may bring, as tomorrow seems so far away,
Only with this doubt in hand must try to make a heart obey!
Giving up yesterday is difficult struggle with all one’s might,
So, cut that string so one can soar high, being free as a kite!
That band of gold, is now broken and the pieces are of many,
Be stumbling in the dark searching for hope, not finding any!
Regain smile without guise and the disappointment will lope,
As that first step is always the hardest, but a symbol of hope!
