Dear Trump Supporter who says they love me,
Amanda Deibert

I’m also a married gay white woman. My extended family is full of white “moderates” who may or may not have ultimately voted for Trump. Last time I talked to them, they planned on it, and it’s been a little while since our last conversation. I’m just not ready yet. They knew enough that he wasn’t a great choice (understatement), but he was still preferable to Clinton. My conversations with them about this devolved into tears and shakiness that I know made them think I was overreacting. I couldn’t manage to articulate how I felt or why it hurt so much, or why it wasn’t simply a matter of “respecting who people vote for.” You did this so well. Thank you so much. Sending you and your family love ❤️ ❤️
