Spiritual Meaning of Coffee-to-Go Burn

I shot through the hotel lobby while my husband checked in.

My job was to carry my one small bag and purse, and to grab a coffee for myself to take to our room.

I popped the lid on the coffee and started to move swiftly away. Except YOWCH! I just spilled some of it on my hand.

Last week I talked to a friend who also burned herself. She knew it meant she was going to get burned. And she knew what it was about.

Now here I am in the same spot.

So let’s work it out together:

I hadn’t put the lid on all the way — that’s why the coffee spilled.

Secure the lid. Keep the lid secure. Keep a lid on it.

Keep a lid on it or you’ll get burned.

Keep a lid on it means keep quiet.

But keep a lid on what?

Keep a lid on the coffee (hot stuff). The coffee is hot.

OK Now we have it:

Be quiet when it comes to hot topics or you’ll get burned.

I found this confusing at first because normally the guidance is to speak the truth — express yourself. Be true to you.

But this didn’t have anything to do with me expressing myself authentically.

It was a heads up to watch my words when others are in stress or not able to contain their emotions. Actually I’ll include myself in there:

Watch what you say when you (or the other) are not in control of your emotions, Jenna.

Duly noted.
