The 3 Stages of Spiritual Growth

In Thus Spake Zarathustra, Friedrich Nietzsche desribes the evolution of consciousness as three levels — Camel, Lion and Child.

At first you are like the camel. Docile, slow, burdened by the conditioning of society. You become dull from worrying about others’ opinions.

Then after awakening to what you’ve missed in life, you become like the lion. Roaring, angry at yourself and others who held the truth from you. You’re ready to find a mountain to stand on.

When I was participating in a huge online marketing course, it was so much fun to see women [including me] break out of their conditioned patterns. They were using names for their business and groups like

rebels. uncaged. kickass. freedom. revolution.

How fun to break free. I still chuckle at the Tervis cup I bought with a skull, crossbones and a pink bow.

My daughter was confused. It’s not your style, she said simply.

She was correct.

It was within a year or so of the lion stage that I experienced accelerated spiritual growth.

Being guided in my sleep, seeing my deceased friend in visions, and learning that our mind manifests things in our physical world, changed me.

This is the stage of half in and half out. Moving out of stage 2 yet not fully in stage 3 yet.

But eventually, the third stage sets in — The Child (the Innocent).

You are carefee. Spontaneous. Aware. No longer rebellious. Delighting in the little things. Trusting. Full of faith and quiet determination.

It’s a beautiful place to be.
