Self-esteem is your standard opinion of yourself, encompassing your feelings and emotions about your achievements, abilities, flaws, and limitations. Healthy self-esteem means you feel good about yourself and spot yourself as deserving of others’ respect. Low self-esteem can result in undervaluing your opinions and ideas, constantly worrying that you’re not good enough.

Factors Influencing Self-Esteem

Self-esteem starts to shape and form early in life and is influenced by various factors, including:

Reactions of Others: How people respond to you.

Your Thoughts and Perceptions: How you view yourself.

School and Extracurricular Experiences: Your achievements and failures.

Work Experiences: Successes and setbacks in your career.

Illness, Disability, or Injuries: Physical and mental health challenges.

Culture and Religion: Societal and spiritual influences.

Role and Status in Society: Your position and how you are perceived.
