Vanished Into Thin Air: The Disappearance of Jason Jolkowski

Jason Jolkowski was at home enjoying a lazy summer morning on June 13, 2001 when the phone rang. The 19-year-old answered it and heard his boss’s voice on the other end, obviously stressed. Jason worked as a waiter at Fazoli’s restaurant in Omaha, Nebraska, and he could tell from the background noise on the phone that it was a busy day there. Although he was scheduled to go in at 5:30 to work the dinner shift, his boss wanted to know if he could come in early to help with the lunch shift as well.

Normally, Jason jumped at the chance to earn some extra money, but a recent hail storm had damaged his car and it was in the repair shop, and both of his parents were at work. He told his boss that he would have to walk to the restaurant, which was located four miles from his home. His boss told him that he could send one of his co-workers to pick him up; rather than try to give directions to his house, Jason arranged to meet his co-worker in the parking lot of the local high school at 11:00am.

After hanging up the phone, Jason got a quick shower and hurriedly dressed for work. As he left the house, he noticed that the trash had already been picked up that morning, and the empty trash cans…
