Elizabeth Barraza was up early on Friday, January 25, 2019. The 29-year-old was getting ready for a yard sale she was holding at the Tomball, Texas home she shared with her husband. The two of them wanted to go away to celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary, and they had decided to sell some of the things they no longer needed so they would have extra cash for their getaway. As Elizabeth began setting up some items in her front yard around 7:00 am, a black truck drove by her home, turned around, and then stopped. A person got out of the truck and approached Elizabeth, then shot her three times. She crumpled to the ground and he fired one more shot, then left.

Three different neighbors heard the sound of gunshots and called 911; the street was normally very quiet and residents were horrified when they realized what had happened. Elizabeth was flown by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where doctors worked feverishly to save her life. Unfortunately, her wounds were too severe and they were unable to stabilize her. She died the following afternoon.
