Unsolved: The Casual Male Store Double Homicide of 2004

Two young retail employees were murdered execution-style, and their killer has never been found.

It was almost closing time at the Casual Male Big & Tall store on Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington, Delaware, and store employees Jessica Watson and Matthew Macerato were looking forward to going home. It was Sunday, December 26, 2004, and the store had been extremely busy with post-holiday returns and exchanges as well as people coming in to spend some of the money they had received for Christmas. The store closed at 6:00 pm, and any customers remaining in the store were asked to finish their shopping so they could check out.

The final sale of the day was rung through the register at 6:02 pm. The doors to the business had already been locked, so the customer had to wait for Matthew to unlock the front door so he could leave. Matthew then locked the door behind him and returned to his closing-time duties. While Jessica started closing out the registers and finalizing the day’s receipts, Matthew began to vacuum.

Jessica, a 22-year-old single mother who was a junior at Delaware State University, had been working at Casual Male for over a year. She had the perfect personality for retail, and customers were drawn to her friendly smile and…
