When you write about death, try not to think about the fact that he was alive this time a year ago. Try not to wonder too hard whether he had any idea that when you walked out the door that would be the last time he’d see you as well.

When you write about death, it’ll be easy to feel guilty that you didn’t show up to breakfast when you said you’d try. You’ll realize how simple it would have been to push through the fatigue and just show up. Try not to wonder if he expressed his disappointment to his friends when they asked where you were. Try not to obsess about how this same thing…
