The Cost Of Things: A Visit To A Post-Communist Czech Hospital

I was studying abroad in Madrid when my inner hypochondriac determined that I had meningitis. (Spoiler alert: I did not.) But whatever doctor our study abroad program had partnered up with spoke English & only laughed at me a little bit before telling me I did not, in fact, have meningitis. I think I paid 20euros or something.

We also had an old British nurse who could come to our building & diagnose us with minor things. Whatever drugs she gave me for strep throat worked perfectly.
