There’s No Place Like Home: Chasing Grace Returns to Portland for Special Event
I’m too lame to get a tattoo, so I’ve recently taken to littering my laptop with pretty rad stickers. I know this is not a new phenomenon, plastering kitschy stickers all over your laptop. In fact, most of my friends and colleagues have done this for years. Well, I’m late to the game but a little obsessed. I look for cool stickers everywhere I go. Most of mine pay tribute to where I’m from — the Pacific Northwest, which is packed full of fir trees, campfires, the beach and yes, too much damn rain.
The Pacific Northwest is also the birthplace of the Chasing Grace Project, the docuseries my company produces about women in tech. We filmed and premiered the very first episode in Portland before going on to film women across the country and premiere episode #2 at the Saturday Night Live studio in New York City. But there’s no place like home, and that’s why we’ve partnered with New Relic to bring it back and to host a special screening event at the Alberta Rose Theatre on September 23. And, it’s free, folks!
We’ll be showing Episode One: Eighty Twenty, which exclusively features women from Portland, and premiering for the Portland community Episode #2: Progress & the Power of Community. This is the first time we’ll host a double feature screening, and we’ll be exhibiting the Chasing Grace photo exhibit, which features powerful yet soft images of the women from the entire series. I’ll be there, too, and am looking forward to sharing these powerful stories and updating the community that first supported this work on where we’re at with the series of six episodes and when they can expect to see episodes #3 and #4 and even #5 and the finale — #6.
So, fellow Pacific Northwesterners, please come out and join us. I invite you to fly your freak flags high and enjoy an evening with some amazing women and men who are driving the conversations that are shaping our future in tech.
Doors open at 5 p.m., and the show starts at 6 p.m. Reserve a free seat before they’re all gone. ttps://www.eventbrite.com/o/rethinkit-media-and-new-relic-26445508739
