Dear Marcus, Like you are saying we all need speak out to work at dismantling not only White supremacy, but also the patriarchy in my opinion-one cannot come down without the other. Speaking out is not enough-I’ve done that much to the annoyance of many I am sure. I attempt to write and talk to various officials in the school, town, state and US government. Despite all that, I look at our Senate, White House and Supreme Court and all I can feel is powerless in doing so. I have voted and encouraged people to vote faithfully. The powerful do not listen to protests, and even seem to control the voting machines and districts. They encourage their constituents to be armed. Corporations are influencing law, and all of those are run by the system we want to dismantle.

My belief at this point is the people who want change need to get control back of the election system. We need people on the ground watching the polls and counting ballots by hand. We need to get those who are not voting to the polls. Do you have any ideas on an effective way to do this? The NAACP did it in the famous Alabama race last fall. We need a national movement modeled on whatever they did-but I don’t know what to do on a personal basis….it’s depressing.
