Optimizing Holiday Social Media Visibility

Hey there Media Maniacs, it’s Monday! Most of you are pretty jazzed about it being a shorter holiday week, but those of us are getting pretty jazzed because this is like our Superbowl. Just like in August, businesses are going to slow down outside of the retail and service sector, and while you might think this is a good time to rest on our laurels and coast right out of 2016 with plans to get boots on the ground in 2017…now is not the time to rest.

Now is the time to get out there, hustle and CRUSH it.

And you might be saying to yourself, “But I’m a writer, musician, landscaping company, accounting firm, yoga studio, etc. Why in the world would I waste my time competing with retail and service industries that are clogging the feeds right now? Won’t I just get passed over?”

No. You won’t. Just like in August when the entire corporate world is on vacation and things slow down, this is the perfect time to ramp up your reach. Here’s why:

  • People have more downtime and will be glued to the internet looking for deals. You will never have more eyes on your content than you will from Thanksgiving-Christmas Eve. Need some time off? Start Christmas Day until New Years. Right now for the next month, you need to be showcasing your best content no matter what industry you’re in.
  • Uniqueness increases conversion. Think about how you can stand out with a graphic or text that grabs attention and makes people stop scrolling. This next month of digital traffic is akin to a doorbuster at a brick and mortar shop. Go over what has won this year. A particular graphic or topic? Revisit it, refresh it, reboot it.

Yes, you have your eyebrow raised and you’re like, that’s great, but HOW.

  • Target, target, target. Spend a small amount of money and target your demographic on your highest performing social media/digital platform. Are you getting the most traffic on YouTube? Start cranking out more videos and promoting things like a Periscope chat or a Facebook Live Q&A sesh.
  • Run a promotion. Did you write a book earlier this year? Slash 20% off the cover price (or more) and do target marketing specific to those your book would appeal to. This goes with whatever you’re offering. If you’re a landscape company, offer a winterizing deal to women ages 25+ in your local area and make your copy as the perfect gift for Dad, Husband, Brother, Uncle…whatever!

The bottom line is you have to think outside the box, use this traffic to your advantage, and get out there and produce content that gets people looking, clicking, and buying. Now is not the time to rest! Now is the time to get out there and close out 2016 strong.
