That would be because I don’t equate the size of the house to my father’s happiness. In my entire life, he never mentioned how small the house was — because it wasn’t relevant. What was relevant, was the back-breaking labor he and his aunts and uncles did from the age of three, only to sleep on the floor and share cornbread and scraps. I agree that a simple life is more blissful, but only if the physical body is not neglected as a result. Poverty is not healthy and slavery is not humane.
