HI, Signmeup!
I’m really not trying to be snarky here when I say that it’s a myth that women are sexually assaulted more than men. Studies show it’s about even, but that stigma against men often discourages or even prevents reporting. If there was any doubt about males being victims, one might look at the church last week. In fact, when a woman does it to a man, we often don’t even classify it s sexual assault, such as in this case, which further stacks the deck against men. As a feminist, I can’t look at this inequality and allow it to be misrepresented the way it is today. That’s not feminism, and it victimizes men in ways feminism tries to fight against for women.
It’s not that I think sexual assault against women shouldn’t get the attention it is. It should just include all the people it happens to and not exclude the men. If this is a movement against sexual harassment and assault, then let’s make it one!
