I Am Thankful For Being A Medium Writer
Even though this new change in how we get paid makes me nervous, I’m still thankful to be here.

One week ago, Medium changed its Medium Partner Program, and that changed the way we get paid from our writing.
Instead of getting paid based on the number of claps we have on a story, we’re now getting paid solely on the amount of time someone spends on our story.
Sure, a lot of people are raving how this is a significant change, and their writing income has doubled since the change.
I, for one, is not too gung-ho on this change.
I know I’m not the only one who’s experiencing anxiety due to the change, and I know I’m also not the only one who feels like they’re writing blind.
Besides being worried about how this new change is going to work out, I am truly thankful for finding Medium and being able to write on this platform.
I am thankful for being a Medium writer.
Before I found Medium, I was searching aimlessly on Google, trying to find a place I could write and publish my articles.
Kind of like Wordpress, but I was looking for a place where I could write, network with fellow writers, and get my writing out in the open.
Along came Medium, a site that already had a built-in audience at your feet.
I’ve had an account on Medium since 2017, but I didn’t start actively writing and publishing until March of 2019.
It was a fantastic experience to start writing on Medium and seeing all these writers publishing articles for everyone to read.
Well, if you were a paying member on Medium.
You could subscribe to the platform and pay $5 each month, or you could pay a flat fee of $50, and that will cover your subscription for the whole year.
That’s not a bad price if you think about it.
I am thankful for having the chance to earn money from my writing.
The thought of being able to write on Medium and get paid for it is incredible. And, it’s every writer’s dream to earn money from writing.
Medium makes it easier than other writing sites since there is already an active audience on the platform.
But this isn’t a write, publish and assume, expect, or hope the other readers and writers will come and read your writing.
After you post your writing, you must go out there and network your writing. A lot of people duck at the word networking, and I’m not sure why, but I find networking on social media fun.
I enjoy writing posts for my writing page on Facebook, Twitter, and I try to showcase my writing through the pictures I post on Instagram.
Even after you do all the networking for that one story, you need to come back and write a new story and do the networking all over again.
You want a lot of readers reading every story of yours since that’s how we get paid.
Since it’s been told, we all skim through articles when we read them, so we need to make our articles and stories engaging from top to bottom.
Even though I don’t make a lot of money from my writing on Medium, I still make money.
And I’m thankful for that, for having the opportunity to put my words out to the world for other people to read.
I’ve met a lot of wonderful writers on this site, and that’s another thing.
I am thankful for all the people I’ve met on Medium.
Medium is a beautiful site that brings readers and writers together.
I’ve met a lot of awesome writers, and some of them have been nice enough to help me out on my writing journey.
I believe Medium is a site where writers come together and publish amazing stories and help support other writers along the way.
I feel like Medium is a writing community of people who want to share their ideas and opinions while encouraging other people to reach their writing goals.
Of course, there are writers on the platform that will step on anyone they can to reach the top, and they only care about themselves. But every site has those types of people.
The writers I’ve met who I talk to regularly are not that type of writer. They genuinely want to see you succeed because they’ve been in my (your) shoes before.
They probably know how it feels not to have support from other writers. I am genuinely thankful for these writers.
Shannon Ashley, Zulie Rane, August Birch, Emma Austin, Jessica Wildfire, Jim Woods, Rachel Thompson, Zach J. Payne.
As time goes on with the new payment system in place, I hope we all can find things about the site that makes us feel thankful.
We all have things to be thankful for; it’s time we open our eyes and truly look at everything.
I may be nervous about the new way we’re getting paid for our writing, but I’m going to hold my head up high and continue to strive to do my very best.
