I’ve honestly thought that so many of our institutionalized -isms are dodges created by the Upper Class to keep everyone in uniting against them. When Blacks were first being brought to America, they were considered indentured servants like many of the White people who were coming.
Maybe the shift, where Blacks become slaves and will always be slaves until the end of time, was born of the Upper Class realization of a dangerous underclass, a fear that the servants might be like, “Hey, you’re Black and I’m White, but we are both being screwed by those rich assholes,” and unite to battle a common enemy.
By making the Blacks’ slaves, it allowed poor Whites to believe that they had a stake in all this. They could someday move up and become rich, but a Black person would always be Black.
Because the truth is, we outnumber the Upper Class. The economy that serves them, rests on our backs. All we have to do to bring them down is, like Mack the turtle from Dr. Seuss’s Yertle the Turtle, refuse to do our job and walk away.
