Will Technology and Bad Manners Finally Kill the Public Library?

I remember having a chat with a librarian about the changes in libraries (in Queensland). The difference from the time I was a kid, to the time I would take my kids to the library. I was always telling my kids to be quiet, and she said “forget it. We want kids to love books and love reading. They won’t do that if this is place they can’t be themselves.” I guess all the rest has just followed on.

Our local library has a once a month teenage night, where they eat pizza, drink coke, and play very noisy video games or dance. My kids know all the librarians by name, and now as seniors in High School the library is the first place they go when they’re having trouble finding what they need on line. Yes, the library…..because, well you know, Mums don’t know anything.
