AutoCAD- A Necessity

The general consensus of educators and professionals alike is that there is a need for people who can work with CADD software. In commercial and residential building design, Autodesk’s Autocad is one of the best. The program specializes in 2D design with excellent annotation abilities. Throughout high school I was able to use this program extensively in a CADD class and learned its ins and outs. At first I didn't like the program, as I preferred working in other 3D driven software such as Revit and Solidworks. But as I began to understand the practical use, I grew closer to it.
As I currently work for a residential building designer, I learned all they use in their design work is AutoCAD. Little did I know I had barely scratched the surface with my school training as they have numerous tricks to make large projects move along quicker. They also rarely work from a blank canvas; they almost always have some sort of background drawing from the architect to draw over. I have also learned how to create sets of plans directly in the program, as well as print them on a large scale. Based on this company's reliance on the program, it shows how much a knowledge of CADD can open the doors for work and career opportunities.
