A little Patience

Patience is everything, especially when learning a language. I think a big reason most noobs like myself quit is because of the amount of time it will take. Language learning is not an easy task. It takes much work, but those who stay hacking away, will one day reach a good level in the language.

You see, I say good level, because it is almost impossible to reach perfect fluency. Even native speakers of English, such as myself, make mistakes in the language. Who knows what illiterate thing I may have said on my posts? When you realize it is a journey, it is more manageable. It is really a lifelong journey.

I have found that the more I keep at it, the more progress I actually make. Now I am not comfortable with speaking or know how to get started at speaking, but I am making progress. One thing that is important is to let go of things that do not make much sense. Especially complex grammar rules.

It is easy to get confused by complicate things, so it is best to leave it be. The more time spent with the language, the clearer such things will become. You have to keep at it and be patient. Those who continue to climb the mountain, will eventually get to the top. The thing is, it doesn’t matter how long it takes. All we really can do is continue on the journey.

Who knows where this will lead? Whether it leads to me becoming very fluent and then learning another language. Or living abroad and using it more than my first language. The thing is, by doing this I open a world of opportunity. I open a new world that is unfamiliar to me. Let me tell you something, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the difference between Korean culture and American culture.

This truly excites me, the only thing I can do is take my time and be patient. Give my brain time to marinate with the language like one would marinate meat for a barbeque. Slowly, but surely, I will reach the level in Korean that I am shooting for!
