Taste your words BEFORE you spell them out!
“Son, here’s your gift”, said the dad to his 10 year old kid, Jack. “Aww, love you dad”, he said seeing a cute, mango sapling grown in a black, cylindrical, polythene ‘cover’ pot.
“ Love it as much as u can, spare time for it and the journey will be fruitful” , the dad told Jack.
He planted it on the ground, watered it and manured it. The sapling grew into a plant. Even though it grew big, Jack could remember it as the little, lush-green, beautiful sapling when he first saw it. This made him take great care of it.
Years passed by…
The sapling grew into a glorious mango tree that yielded the tastiest mangoes. Like the dad said, the journey was fruitful.
One day, Jack - now a 17 year old boy who had anger issues, came running to his dad and yelled, “Dad, please help me!”.
“Calm down son. What’s wrong?”, the dad asked.
“Like I always do, I got into an argument. This time with my best friend. Eventually I got angry and irritated, and spelled out words which I shouldn’t have. I hurt her badly. What do I do now, dad?”
The dad went to the garage and brought a nail and a hammer. He gave it to Jack and said, “There’s nothing you can do now. Take this nail and hammer it into the trunk of the mango tree you love.”
Jack didn’t know why his dad asked him to do that. But, he made up his mind to do it and took the nail and hammered it into the trunk of the tree.
His dad said, “Well, now take it off.”
Jack took the nail off.
The scar remained!!
“See Jack, when u hurt people, the love they have for you will still be the same. But the scar that you made by hurting them remains. It takes time to heal”
“Take my advice.”
“ When you get angry, you’ll do and say things which you’ll regret. So, Calm down when you get angry and Taste your words before you spell them out. And you wont hurt people anymore”, the Dad said.
From then on, Jack showed his love for people by not getting angry at them and hurting them..
Explain anger! Express Love!!
