So Sherman gets a pass because his innocent victims weren’t chosen based on religion, ethnicity and sexual orientation? Ravaging an entire innocent civilian population *was* his military objective, and set a precedent that has sadly resonated throughout history in world war 1, world war 2, and beyond.

I mean really, would Himmler have been more moral to you if instead of capturing France and hunting down Jews there, he literally burnt it down, pillaged it, and raped all the locals on his way?

Yes, their forms of evil took different shapes, but make no bones about it, Sherman was just as evil, if not more, than Himmler.
