This is where Bart Ehrman lost his faith — trying to reconcile mortal suffering with an all powerful, all good God. As David Hume said:
Epicurus’s old questions are yet unanswered:
Is God willing to prevent evil but not able? Then he is impotent.
Is he able but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Whence, then, evil?
Thanks again for the commentaries — very informative, even and perhaps especially for someone who doesn’t share your faith :)
