Having a situation like this for more than 2 years is undoubtedly both an issue from management, but also from the person aliased Rick in the story.

Not documenting, not building a healthy team environment is a management thing, what I’m trying to say is that maybe they did the correct thing by firing Rick at the moment, the biggest issue indeed is that something like this was sustain during such an amount of time, something that definitely pissed off all people involved, management, Rick and team members.

I think the original article definitely lacks of a mea culpa from not reacting in time, and probably preventing the need to fire a person with great talents.
