Adventures in Plotly: Pie Charts

I’ve been meaning to start writing for some time now. The normal things have gotten in the way (job, kids, general laziness, etc).

Disclaimers:

  • This particular article will have more talking than others since it is my first in this series (and ever!). Bear with me.
  • I’m assuming you, the reader, have a working knowledge of Python

When describing a process, I tend to write how I think. In other words, you’ll see how my brain is thinking about the task at hand as you read through this article. I also like to write conversationally, I just find that more interesting to read.

A little bit about me: I spent about 12 years in the data space in some capacity (data analyst, engineer, scientist) mostly split between BCG and my current company, Wiser Solutions, with a few other stops sprinkled in. Over time, I started to see the positive impact that a well-crafted visualization can have on your target audience. And, conversely, how a poor visualization can completely derail a meeting/presentation. I don’t think I’m an expert in data viz nor an expert in Python, however, I have a lot of professional experience that I hope you can apply to your professional life.
