Uber may be the largest, but I feel that Instagram and Twitter are better representatives for the industry that grew out of widespread adoption of smartphones. And I just don’t see self-driving cars, as crazy about them as I may be, having that level of impact. The average user doesn’t gain much, in terms of life possibilities, as, for instance, having an Internet-connected computer in their pocket at all times. I think people will have more cheap goods cheaply delivered to their doors. I think insurance companies will drastically change their business models. But for the average user, I can’t imagine that going from driving yourself to being driven will do much more than allow for more time to stare at your phone (and there are already plenty of people who don’t let driving themselves get in the way of that).
