The article excellently rebuts the question, “But this just gives cities options, what’s wrong with that?” I have an additional rebuttal: Just imagine how exhausting it would be for both tenants and landlords to have individual rent control battles in hundreds of cities across the state. What an inefficient use of our time and energy, when we could be making much larger sweeping improvements to the housing opportunity of millions of Californians.
