Are Chandra and Kelly Kapoor Related?

Chandra Kapoor is a New York lawyer. Kelley Kapoor is a former customer service representative at Dunder Mifflin in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Both Kelly and Chandra are of Indian descent and practice Hinduism.

But are they related?

We know from The Office, a reality show about a paper company, that Kelly has four sisters: Rupa, Neepa, Tiffany, and an unnamed sister who is reportedly dead. Chandra has no sisters that we know of. So it would appear that Chandra and Kelly are not sisters.

Unless Chandra is the unnamed sister who the family believes is deceased.

It’s not unquestionable to think that Chandra faked her own death to get away from Kelly and the Kapoor family, but if she did that, why keep the last name? If you’re going to fake your own death, you don’t keep your name. It pretty much defeats the purpose.

So what if Chandra is actually Rupa or Neepa and she just changed her first name? Chandra is a lawyer. Rupa and Neepa are not good lawyer names. It’s tough to take a defense attorney serious when their name is Rupa or Neepa. Even Tiffany is a weak lawyer name because Tiffany is the name of a pop star, a jewelry store, or a place where you get breakfast. I don’t know any female lawyers named Tiffany and I know one female lawyer. Chandra is a respectable lawyer name, and it’s very possibly that Rupa, Neepa, or Tiffany changed their name or used their middle name once they decided to be a lawyer.

We saw Rupa, Neepa, and Tiffany at Dawali in 2006. That was 10 years before The Night Of, a crime and legal documentary starring Chandra. Can we conclude that Rupa, Neepa, or Tiffany transformed into Chandra in 10 years?

We can rule out Rupa. She is lighter skinned and was prom as well. No offense to Chandra, but she doesn’t strike me as the prom queen type. How many prom queens do you know that went on to become lawyers? I don’t know any and I know two prom queens.

Neepa was one of Kelly’s younger sister, and the age doesn’t add up for her to be Chandra.

That leaves Tiffany. She and Chandra look similar and the age lines up.

Are there any other clues that link the two together?

Kelly spent a year in juvenile hall after she stole her boyfriend’s fathers boat. This is significant because it could explain why Chandra became a lawyer. She saw her sister going down the wrong path, and she wanted to steer clear of that path and help steer others away from the path as well.

It would also seem that liking “bad boys who dabble in drugs” runs in the Kapoor DNA. Kelly was madly in love with Ryan, a hot shot co-worker who bit off more than he could chew and turned to drugs to keep up. Chandra fell for Naz, her client who was changed while in prison. It doesn’t seem like a coincidence that the two would fall for similar guys.

Both ladies also try to see the best in people. Kelly was known for her upbeat personality, always up to chat with anyone and had a generally positive outlook. Chandra was much the same, believing in her client enough to put him on the stand. Their positivity may’ve turned out to be misguided, but that shouldn’t be held against them.

I think it’s obvious that Chandra and Kelly are sisters, with the most likely explanation being that Tiffany changed her name to Chandra upon getting into law. Chandra likely struggled with the decision to change her last name as well, but she is clearly proud of the Kapoor name and her reality star sister. Now, she too is a star, and I would expect the Kapoor sisters to quickly replace the Williams and Kardashian sisters as the most power sisters in Hollywood.
