The Man Who: Watches The Bold and The Beautiful …
Yep, that’s me. After years of watching I’m picking Medium as my place to vent/review/analyze.
I am a 32 year old man who began watching B&B with my girlfriend a few years ago(4+). As a lover of TV and film there isn’t really a show I won’t give a chance. Each episode only contains about 18–20 minutes of the actual program so it’s an easy watch. I do feel this makes B&B more appealing than say Y&R, with its over abundance of characters and hour long episodes, for the male viewer. I will try to make a separate article for each talking point.
Character Development — Quinn Fuller
I will start here. What is a great show without iconic characters? B&B doesn’t lack in this area. Ridge Forrester would be my pick for the shows most iconic character. This has somewhat diminished with Thorston Kaye taking over for Ronn Moss, but still the character is synonymous with the show. The cast is smaller than other soaps making it easier to get to know and love certain characters. “Dollar” Bill Spencer happens to be my favorite.
So then why once you finally think you “know” a character do they take sharp left turns? Is this just shoddy writing or a disconnect from having multiple writers who may not know history and continuity? My present gripe being the development of Quinn Fuller.
Are we supposed to feel bad for this woman? This show has spent years solidifying the fact she is sneaky, manipulative, and psychopathic. She is guilty of multiple counts of attempted murder and even kidnapping! And now this Eric and Quinn plot line has been going strong for a while now. We have seen Quinn “change” so many times in the past and revert right back to the same ‘ol same. Enough times that it is 100% unbelievable that she will ever change. So why are they trying so hard to convince us she’s changed? So much so the tone has noticeably shifted to make Ridges treatment of Quinn seem unfair. When any sane person who knew this woman would act worse to her in person. Even us as viewers know all Quinn has done, even if no one else does. So what are we waiting for? Quinn to use the power of attorney as a plot device to bring another few months of someone else being CEO of Forrester and be an evil dictator? Wasn’t that Rick? Which wasn’t that long ago. I can usually predict where a plot thread will lead. It’s obvious Quinn having power of attorney will bring the drama, but I am seriously left wondering if I should care. The writers have spent so much time trying to make us think that Quinn has changed for the better, that if she truly isn’t it will almost feel like a slap in the face. What do you think?
