Strategy by Drucker

Austrian Peter Drucker (1909–2005) was a superstar management consultant, author of 39 brilliant books and one of my favourite business leaders. I love his writing because he always spoke to the head and the heart. He had a skill in combining philosophy with practical business application, something that many modern day consultants really struggle with. Drucker was so successful because he offered advice in a way which inspired people.

He helped me to understand why many companies fail not because they don’t have great technology, products or customers, but because they don’t have a great culture. Products, technology and customers may bring success for a certain time, but when things get tough (and they will get tough), it is always the companies with the strongest cultures who not only survive but thrive.

This is why Peter always challenged business leaders about their vision, values and mission, before he asked them about their strategy, ideas and planning.

Sound advice.
