Bryce Covert will, zombie-like, repeat the myth of the gender wage gap until the day she dies. She cannot stop herself. She’s expected to speak up and she will always say women unfairly earn 79 cents to men’s dollar. Reasons don’t matter to her.

She cannot change her mind. She has a deep-seated need to be “right” about women’s 79 cents, among other gender issues. Her need to be right about her views is driven by her fear of being wrong about them. If she changed her mind, what would her minions, friends, family members say to her? She cannot bear the stress of taking in new views and changing hers.
