If there is anything more fundamental to the American psyche than the “American dream” it is the belief in American Exceptionalism. In its simplest form, American Exceptionalism is the idea that America holds a special status among nations. This idea of exceptionalism presumes that American leadership rests not on the strength of the ideas America puts into practice or the benefits America extends to its people, but instead is merely predestined — like the bloodlines and rulership of a monarchy.

To be sure, a certain degree of nationalist fervor is present in most countries. However, America’s self-proclaimed exceptionalism goes beyond…

The five tips shared in this article can help any organization looking to employ physicians. Physician employment agreements can be complex. Compliance counsel can help to limit liability and to mitigate the risk associated with such an undertaking. There are several common questions and contract provisions worth being aware of.

1. Should I hire a physician as an employee or as an independent contractor?

The independent contractor route can seem tempting from the employer perspective. Employers hope to avoid payroll taxes, pension benefits, and liability for malpractice. On the other side, physicians may believe, sometimes mistakenly, that incorporating and working…

The FBI and Senate Judiciary Committee democrats are both investigating whether Russia funneled dark money to the National Rifle Association (NRA) in efforts to aide Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. The constant trickle of Trump-Russia revelations read like a revamped version of Richard Condon’s Manchurian Candidate. You have secret backroom meetings at Trump Tower. You have disappearing spies and mysterious murders across multiple continents. You have the President’s chief of staff unwittingly using a hacked cell phone for months — you have all the makings of a spy novel. What we as Americans do not have however — is the…

Growing ever more dissatisfied with classes and what I felt was becoming a regressive society, I decided, for better or worse, that I could change things around me. I became an organizer for then Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.

On weekends, I canvassed door-to-door, both on campus and in my neighborhood. Overall, the reception at most doors was warm.

I spoke with neighbors I’d…

Let us be clear. The term ‘alt right’ is an attempt to recast ‘white supremacy’ as a new, acceptable ideology. White Supremacy is not new, and it has no place in our politics.

White supremacists are rebranding themselves. It’s understandable. The American public has spent the last half a century resoundingly and continually rejecting the idea that one race of people is inately superior to another or that national policy should advance the interests of one race of people above others.

Instead, the American public has increasingly embraced ethnic and racial diversity. White supremacy has been relegated to fringe corners…
